Easter Sunday Service

Today is a joyful day –

enter, rejoice and come in …

led by Chris Newsam

Introduction

Chalice Lighting

Our different paths come together in this Holy place. Graced by the history of our free religious heritage. Let us be mindful of the forces deep within which call us to become more than we are. May this hour bring rest and renewal, comfort and challenge. May we be reminded here of our highest aspirations, and inspired to bring our gifts of love and service to the altar of humanity. May we know once again that we are not isolated beings, but that we are connected – in mystery and in wonder to each other, to this community and to the universe.’ (Unknown author)

The Place to Send Your Prayers

It is a thin place,

that place between

knowledge and myth.

It is found in snow falling

on silent water and

the first bits of green

poking trough last year’s faded glory.

It is found in the startling

sweet taste of a wild blueberry and

the cry of an owl

through darkness.

It is found in a dying

man’s last breath and

his partner’s grief and gratitude

as they weave together in holy silence.

It is found in a mother’s head

turning towards the sunrise

after a sleepless night and

the ecstatic cry of a child’s delight.

The place to send your prayers

might seem thin –

but then again,

prayers can fit anywhere.
